In a disturbing act of manipulation, Daniel Krug impersonated his wife’s ex-boyfriend and proceeded to stalk her for several months in the fall of 2023 before ultimately killing her in the garage of their Broomfield, Colorado residence.
October 2023: Kristil Krug reported receiving harassing texts and emails. Unbeknownst to her, these messages were crafted by her husband.
December 14, 2023: Kristil was found dead in the garage of their home after Daniel called the non-emergency number asking for a welfare check, because he was at work and couldn't get away. Circumstantial evidence shows that Daniel waited in ambush that morning before going to work, struck her with a blunt object, and then fatally stabbed her in the chest.
On the day of the murder, Daniel disabled the home’s security system, taped over the doorbell camera, and sent misleading texts from Kristil’s phone after the attack to create a false narrative.
Investigation & Evidence
Investigators traced the IP addresses of the threatening messages to Daniel’s workplace.
The ex-boyfriend was ruled out as a suspect and provided an alibi. Despite a lack of physical evidence (no blood or DNA linking Daniel to the crime scene), the forensic and digital evidence built a compelling case.
Charges & Conviction
First-Degree Murder
Two counts of Stalking
Criminal Impersonation
On April 17, 2025, a jury of his peers found Daniel Krug guilty on all counts. The next day, a judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 9½ years for stalking and impersonation.
